Yahoo and Info Request

Here is Spooknic's new yahoo group. If you would like to receive info about spooknic and chat with other members this is a good place to be :) I know that many people don't use livejournal, so this would be a wonderful place to direct your friends who don't LJ but would like to come. *hint hint*

My husband and I will be traveling up to Sacramento hopefully in a few months to familiarize ourselves with the area a bit more. We have some visits with friends planned, and a Sunday night at a goth club (the name is escaping me at the moment - sorry). Any suggestions for places to check out - stuff to see? Anyone want to meet up over coffee? Suggestions on places to start looking for apartments.

Like I said we are moving in from out of the area so all help is muchly thanked :) I got the suggestion from one of you guys that meeting downtown SAC will help the group be the most successfull. I was thinking thats a great idea. For people who don't drive getting to the downtown of a city is usually pretty easy by bus or other transportations.

Would you guys like to see it in the same location all the time - or move it a round a bit? I was thinking that if we met on the same day of each month, or every other month in the same locale then even if you are not interneting you would know whats going on - but some people might like to mix it up a bit. Thoughts?

The Sunday night goth club is Asylum, at the Rage. I'll totally meet you for coffee. What kind of apartment are you looking for? Craigslist.com is always a good place to start...

Hey thanks for the link! I've seen the name cragslist thrown around a bit but neve rmoseyed over myself before - there are some interesting looking listings on there!

We are looking for a place that will accept at least one or two cats, two bedrooms - under 800 a month, preferebly closer to 700 a month. A landlord who wouldn't mind us respobsibly decorating the apartment as we plan to live there for a number of years would be a definante plus but not a requirment. Air conditioning as we are going to have to do some serious acclimatizing would be a bonus as well. :)

I joined the Asylums message board but I dont get over there as much as I do other places.

Air conditioning is pretty much universal in Sacramento, in any but the most ghetto-dreadful of apartments--at least a wall unit, if not central A/C. Typically if you get an older, cuter place (like a victorian flat downtown) you're more likely to get wall A/C than in a newer, less aesthetically pleasing apartment.

Especially downtown, the best way to find apartments is to walk the streets looking for FOR RENT signs--something to do while visiting town, and a good way to get your bearings downtown, too. Outside downtown, craigslist is good, as are the Sacramento Bee classifieds (www.sacbee.com) since Sacramento as a whole is pretty darn big (about 100 square miles.)

Asylum is--well, how do I say this politely?

Hm. I can't.

Asylum is AWFUL.

Yay for air conditioning! Where I live now its generally not more than sixty degress most times in the summer, so you can imagine what a difference this will be!

We will definantly have to do some major on foot exploring then...

...do you have any other recomendations as far as clubs? The husband is barely turning 21, and I won't be for a year after that...

actually, if you're not 21 yet, then the Rage is pretty much going to be your only regular option, at least right now. There is a Thursday night club at Club 21, and a Monday night club at Faces, but both are 21+. TRAUMA is generally all-ages but they don't have a regular night--the next one is June 18, I think, and they tend to appear every two or three months.

No more than 60 degrees in the summer? Where are you now, Alaska? Even in Arcata, which is pretty cool and blustery, summers would reach the 70-80 degree range.

In Sacramento, the temperature often doesn't dip below the mid-seventies even in the middle of the night--daytime temperatures can hit 105-110 degrees in the really crackly parts of summer.

Why are you moving here again?

I live nesr monterey - if it bothers to get any warm in the summer its never for more than a week at a time, and at that not much higher than 70-75.

Its a lot more affordable to live up there than here, there is more things for us do to, friends that have moved up there, and we really wanted to just plain move. :) Im not much of a heat person but I am sure I will acclimatize.
